I heard someone share the other day in a sermon about Tear Bottles. That intrigued me as I am a Music Therapist and will be working with folks who may be struggling with grief or trials of life. I have had grief myself and the tear bottle resonated with me.
Tear Bottles in the Bible
Maybe you’ve read this verse many times, but didn’t know the ancient custom behind it …
“You number my wanderings; Put my tears into Your bottle; Are they not in Your book?” Psalm 56:8
King David seems to be referring to a tear bottle. He imagines that God has one for all of our tears, as well as a book of all the days that we live. In other words, God is not removed; He is not distant and unconcerned. He notices every small detail of our lives, and He shares in our grief.
Having a tear bottle can bring a tangible way to process our grief, cry and mourn. Crying and expressing grief is a part of the grieving process. When we get our feelings out we can begin to heal and move on. Listen to some music that identifies with your feelings or life situation. Talk with someone who can have empathy for what you are going through.
Once grief is processed...however long that takes..Joy will come in the morning.
