Have you ever found yourself listening to a song and the lyrics were exactly what you are going through or feeling? The instrumentation in a song awakens you and you feel less tired, angry or down. Music activates the brain. Music can be used to identify emotions and create a setting that inspires improved mood, thoughts, and feelings. Music has been shown to lower levels of anxiety, blood pressure, and pain. Music helps us process grief and work through depression. It can directly affect stress-inducing hormones. When we play an instrument like a drum or shaker we are activating good hormones that make us feel happy or relieve pain.
I have a Music Degree from Eastern University and a Music Therapy Degree from Rowan University. I have experience working with those struggling with low self esteem, anxiety, depression, loneliness, grief, recovering from addictions, aging/memory loss, Alzheimer's/ dementia patients and their caregivers.
I am set to take the Music Therapy Board Certification Exam in October.
Some exciting news coming up in October I will be partnering with Integrity Christian Counseling to provide and offer Music Therapy at their office in Pottstown! I am looking forward to what God is going to do in using music as a tool to help others with their mental health goals.
I also will be at the Upper Pottsgrove Community Day this Saturday 9/23/23. I'll be at the Integrity Christian Counseling table 10:30am to 11:30am sharing about Music Therapy!
